Graduated from the faculty of Medicine of the University of the West Indies in 1978 with the MBBS degree , obtaining honours in Surgery and Anatomy. He won the gold medal in Surgery. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1985 after successfully completing the examinations of the Royal College of Surgeons. In 1987 he completed the Doctor of Medicine programme in General Surgery at the University of the West Indies and then became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has been in private surgical practice since 1987. He worked at the Port Antonio Hospital as Senior Medical Officer from 1987 to 1990 when he moved to the Kingston Public Hospital where he is currently employed as the Senior Medical Officer.
